Description
Get started on your journey with hands-on beginner class designed to help you build confidence with a sewing machine. You’ll learn the essential skills every sewist needs, from threading and tension to stitch practice. With guided instruction, you’ll move from practice sheets to fabric, and by the end of the class, you’ll take home your very first project-a handmade tote bag!
In this class, you will learn the basics of sewing including (but not limited to):
• Parts of the sewing machine and how to they work
• Understanding needles and their types
• How to thread the machine and adjust tension
• Stitch length and when to use it
• How to wind and install a bobbin
• How to raise bobbin thread into the machine
• Practicing straight stitches and zig-zag stitches (on paper and fabric)
• Completing a tote bag project
Project Supply List (per student):
• 1/2 yard medium-weight cotton or canvas fabric
• Matching all-purpose polyester thread
***Hardware (sewing machines, scissors, pins, seam rippers, irons, etc.) is provided by Molten Makerspace, LLC. Students may bring their own sewing machine if they prefer.***
