Upcycle Your Clothes – Beginner Sewing

Overview: Give new life to your old clothes! This class is a great introduction into the very basics of what many call โ€œvisible mending,โ€ as well as simply upcycling your old clothing! Visible mending entails bringing a broken, faded, or ripped item and making it look colorful and fun in a โ€œpatched-upโ€ way. This class can be done entirely with hand sewing and embroidery, but you are also free to use the sewing machines! The instructor will bring some premade โ€œidea swatchesโ€ as well as scrap fabric for you to gather inspiration from! There is a lot of brainstorming from others in the group, so bring your friends!

Topics we will cover include (but are not limited to):

  • Basic hand embroidery stitches
  • Fun and intentionally noticeable stitching/patching
  • Altering garments for a more desirable outcome

Materials needed:

As this is a mending class, you will need to supply an โ€œold garment.โ€ Anything works, as long as you donโ€™t like wearing it the way it is! Some ideas:

  • A shirt with a small hole
  • Pants you simply never wear
  • Socks that are ugly

Embroidery floss, scrap fabric, trims, and other small items will be supplied for

Overview: This class is for the absolute beginner. In this class, you will learn how to sew the โ€œmagicโ€ pillowcase, meaning you only need 1 yard of fabric! It is recommended you take this class before any others if you have no experience.

In this class you will create 2 wonderfully custom scented candles with custom labels, all while doing so in a eco-friendly, sustainable way. Your candles will burn without toxins or carcinogens, creating a positive impact in your home and your world. Join us in this wax filled adventure, and Illuminate Your Journey.

In this class you will learn the basics of candle making such as:
– How to prepare and choose your vessels
– How to properly wick vessels
– How to choose your fragrances
– How to help your candles burn effectively
– Candle care basics

Great for all levels of chandlers (a great title for candlemakers!). This class is open to all types of candle makers. Whether youโ€™ve never made a candle, or if youโ€™re a seasoned professional, this class is for you! Ages 10+. Students under 15 must have a
parent/guardian present. Students should wear long pants and closed-toed shoes that they do not mind getting
dirty. Aprons will be provided to help protect against spills (while rare), but precaution should be taken against hot wax. Those not wearing closed toed shoes will not be able to participate in the class and will not be refunded. All candles must be fully cooled in order to prevent the deformation of the candles in transit. After the class, students may pick up their candles up to a week after the class, or they can be shipped.
This class, for those over 21, is BYOB. Hard Liquor is prohibited, but wine, beer, or mixed drinks are a wonderful option to pair with candle making.

Overview: Want to learn how to set a zipper, but also make a cute pouch in the process? Here is your chance! The pouch you learn to make will be fully lined. It is required that you are comfortable with basic machine sewing to take this class.

Topics we will cover include (but are not limited to):

  • Learning how to use a zipper foot
  • How to set a zipper with lining

Some fabrics will be available to choose from. However, if you would like to bring your own fabric, you will need:

  • 1/3 yard (or a fat quarter) of outer fabric
  • 1/3 yard (or a fat quarter) of lining fabric

Overview: This is a class for those who have sewing experience and want to learn more about stuffie-making. This class uses a FableBound Thicket stuffed animal pattern that you can take home! There is more focus on the finer details of stuffie making.

Topics we will cover include (but are not limited to):

– Reading a FableBound Thicket Pattern

– Matchpoints and basic snipping/easing curves

– (optional) How to use fluffy/luxe minky fabric

Materials needed:

– All materials are included for this class. If you would like to bring in your own fabric, or a specific accent fabric for the belly, please feel free to do so!

*This project may take 2 classes to complete. Because everyone works at their own pace, you can sign up for another class for finishing help if needed.*
